SRA is a designation issued by the Appraisal Institute to those who have chosen to specialize in residential real estate. This designation does require more education and experience than a certified residential appraiser. To receive this designation, the appraiser must obtain a minimum of a four year degree from an accredited educational institution. They must also meet 3,000 hours of experience requirements and pass examinations on appraisal principles, residential valuation techniques, report writing, and standards of professional practice. Fewer than 1% of all appraisers nationwide have achieved the SRA Designation.

Nicholas Farrar, MRICS, MAI
Nicholas (Nic) Farrar is a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser, specializing in residential and commercial appraisals in the Florida Keys. Nic is originally from the U.K. After receiving his diploma in Surveying, Nic became a chartered surveyor at Romans Surveyors
and Valuers in London. In 2011, he moved to Key West with his wife and joined Kevin at Appraisers of the Keys. Nic is a member of the Appraisal Institute and has his MRICS and MAI designations. In his spare time, he enjoys rooting for Arsenal FC and coaching high school soccer. MAI is a designation issued by the Appraisal Institute to those who have chosen to specialize in commercial real estate.

In addition to a four year degree and 4,500 hours of specialized experience, these appraisers have also passed comprehensive exams and written a paper similar to a thesis paper to prove their understanding of commercial property valuation laws. Because of its rigorous requirements, this designation has long been recognized by government agencies, courts, land investors, and financial institutions as a mark of true excellence in the field of real estate valuation and analysis.
